On the heels of not being able to play D&D this week, Thursday’s gaming got messed up as well. I got a call from work at about 5:30pm last night, which ended up making me late for a Pulp City game I’d scheduled with Brian. I finally got done with my work, packed up my stuff and trudged out through the pouring rain to my car. I got about halfway there when I realized I’d left my Pulp City cards at home. The traffic was terrible, so I decided I wasn’t going to go back for them. I did end up at the store, so I just hung out and talked with Joel and Brian and then watched some Flames of War games.

Looks like the folks over at Corvus Belli are on top of things with their next releases for Infinity:
Haqqislam: Hassassin Muyibs
My chosen army gets some coolness with these models. While they look kinda generic in relation to the army, there’s enough variation to be able to pick them out. I’m not a particular fan of the long hair thing, so I will likely either leave this piece off or shorten it a bit.

Dave had to do inventory, so no D&D last night. On a bright note, when I said to my (amazingly awesome and beautiful) wife, “I need to make you play D&D with me sometime.”, she said, “Okay, sure.”. Nice!!

We have an ongoing Warhammer 40K campaign being run by Dave, one of the employees at Games To Die For. So far we’ve had three turns and I have only had to play one game so far. The one game I played was against a guy named Chris. Apparently, he is wanting to play a game against me again. He claims, “You’re a fun opponent.”. Based on the way he trash talked me the other day, I think he thinks I’ll be an easy win. He said things like, “So, are you going to be sure to put Shrike in a unit this time? That’s fine, I’ll just have to wipe out the whole unit then!”. It may be true that I’ll be an easy win for him, but I’m going to try my best to make him work for it.
This weekend I picked up a Space Marine Drop Pod and I worked on assembling a Plasma Cannon marine as well as a Plasmagun marine and a second unit of Assault Marines. Hopefully that will be enough anti-MEQ (Marine equivalent) to keep his army at bay.

Bill and I decided to play 1500 points for our first game. I thought I had a lot more assembled than that, but as it turns out, that wasn’t so. In either case, we felt like it’d be best to go through all the rules rather than play a smaller game and only use a portion of them. Bill didn’t have any characters, so I lent him my Saruman and Lurtz figures that I’ve had since way back when the skirmish game first came out. Rather than worry about scenarios for this first game, we decided to just do the classic “pitched battle” game.
There are a bunch of rules disputes on the forums around the ‘Net, one of which is whether models/units with the Terror special ability are immune to Terror from other units. Bill claimed he had seen somewhere that Games Workshop had stated that was true, so we went with that, even though I had never heard any such thing. That’s the only rules issue we cleared up prior to the game.

I started a Star Wars Saga Edition game a few months ago using the Dawn of Defiance campaign put out by Wizards of the Coast free on their website. So far, we have gotten through the first part, Trator’s Gambit and have started A Wretched Hive where the players are in a Hutt palace on Neimoidia. We’ve played this part for three sessions now and have almost come to the end.
The campaign started with about 8 people and has fluctuated between 4 and 6 per session, which I run every other Wednesday. Over that time, I feel like my GM skills have improved and every session I see areas that can improve. However, it is a bit demoralizing when some people either don’t want to show up or can’t show up and can’t be bothered to call either me or the store to let me know they aren’t showing. I waited around until 7pm waiting for people last night and ended up with just 4 players, one of which just started last session.

This has been my 3rd session of Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition now and I am still enjoying the game regardless of my die rolling. Our DM, Dave, is running the Keep on the Shadowfell adventure, which some of the other players have done before with him. However, they didn’t make it past the last encounter he ran for us yesterday.
