In the month of August, the Game Preserve had been giving double points, so I’d gathered over 600 in that month combined with my unused points prior to it. That equals $60 worth of store credit.
Friday, I paid them a visit just for kicks. I didn’t have anything I needed at the store, but I do like to look around to see what’s new. The guy working that day tells me that Saturday Space Hulk would be released. He said they had 20-something reserved and another 15 to be sold separately. I told him to go ahead and make that 14 to put on the shelf. I figured that means I’d get a $100 board game for $45.
I picked up the game on Saturday and was amazed at how much the box weighed. I’d guess it weighed in at at least 10 pounds. I didn’t open it in the car to see what the big deal was, but I so wanted to. I threatened my wife and son that I’d make them play it with me that evening.
Once I got home, I started popping out the board pieces. This is where all the weight came from. It looked like about 12 flats of 1/8″ thick cardboard with glossy coating on front and back. The minis were fairly easy to just snap together, but clipping out 10 or so Terminators and about 30 Genestealers ended up taking quite some time.
I didn’t end up fulfilling my threat of making the two of them play that weekend, but I did get a chance to read through some of the rules. It seems easy enough to play, but the Space Marine player having a very short period of time to do his “work” would make it skads more difficult to keep up with.
The game looks like it’ll be a blast and I’m very happy with my purchase. I’m not going to bother painting the figures as I think they look pretty good as boardgame pieces as they are in their red and blue plastic.
