What I’ve been up to since the last post

Well, I admit I have been neglecting this blog for a little while now, so I figured I’d post some of what’s been going on in the last month or so.
First of all, I’ve gotten a bunch of Tyranids painted in preparation for the new Codex. I also went back and repainted weapons on the three Warriors I’ve got posted on the blog already. I may repaint the weapons on the Termagants as well, but that’ll come later. Since no one knows yet what the best loadouts on the Carnifexes and Tyrants will be, I also went through and magnetized a bunch of weapon arms for them. I love the customization possibilities, but the weapons do have trouble staying upright, especially the metal bonesword and lash whip. So far, this is what’s painted:
- Hive Tyrant
- Hive Guard
- Zoanthrope
- Lictor
- Genestealers x8
- Termagants x12
- Spinegaunts x10
- Screamer-Killer Carnifex
- Warriors x6
- Ripper Swarms x3
Next up will be assembling/painting another Tyrant Guard and a Zoanthrope and painting another 20 Termagants. I also have about 20 Hormagaunts to get through as well. I’ll be getting the codex and probably a Trygon on the 16th of January.
In addition, I have picked up some Imperial Guard as well. I’m going with the ‘Nam theme using the Catachan models. What I have so far is:
- Catachan Jungle Fighters x40
- Catachan Jungle Fighters w/Plasmagun x7
- Catachan Jungle Fighters w/Flamer x2
- Catachan Jungle Fighters w/Grenade Launcher x2
- Catachan Officers and Sergeants x5
- Catachan Heavy Weapons Teams w/Missile Launcher x3
- Catachan Command Squad box
Coming in the mail are:
- Valkyries x2
- Catachan Jungle Fighters w/Heavy Flamer x2
- Catachan Jungle Fighters x10
I still want to pick up a few Sentinels and maybe a Chimera. I’ll need some special weapon guys like meltaguns and some more Heavy Weapons Teams, but those might come much later.
On the Warhammer Fantasy front, I’ve been playing nearly every week in our local Warhammer Fantasy League. This week we are up to 600 points. So far, I have not really done well with the Ogres, but I still think they are a fun army. I’m trying really hard to figure out how to do well at these low point levels and against a lot of much newer armies. Greg (a local Skaven player) has been my most frequent opponent and probably the guy offering the most advice to improve the Ogres’ performance.
On the painting front in Warhammer Fantasy, I have three more Bulls and three more Ironguts painted. So that makes the following painted so far:
- Ogre Bruiser
- Ogre Bruiser Battle Standard Bearer
- Ogre Bulls x6
- Ogre Ironguts x6
- Gnoblar Trappers x8
Next on the agenda for the Ogres is probably a Butcher, three Maneaters and maybe two Leadbelchers. I am loathe to start on the Gnoblars because there are so many of them to do.
As you might be able to tell, most of what I’ve been doing is related to Games Workshop. I’ve (mostly) decided to focus my efforts on the GW games since finding models is really easy and one can pick and choose their opponents since there are so many. I have grown really tired of investing in the smaller minis games (Malifaux, Uncharted Seas, Infinity, etc.) only to see the player base dwindle into nothing. At least with GW games, I’ll be assured to at least have people interested in acquiring the models should I decide to switch armies.
Howevr, on the smaller minis games front, there is a lot of buzz about Firestorm Armada. I did pick up the book and have read through it. I told the locals that if I see the game being played regularly in the next few months, I may buy in. Along those same lines, I played a game of Uncharted Seas at Games To Die For with Dave last week. He ended up winning, but it inspired me to paint my Shroud Mages fleet. I got them all done in the course of one day.
In the very near future, there will be new photos posted of the models I have painted in the last month. I just need to get the motivation to pull out the camera equipment.
To those who keep up with this blog, even though I don’t update it very regularly, I appreciate your support.
