This past Saturday I participated in a Warhammer Fantasy Battles tournament at Games To Die For in Avon, Indiana. The tournament was being run by the same guy who is running the Warhammer Fantasy League, which has been running for a few months now. Most of the people who had signed up for the tournament were members of the league.
Two days prior to the tournament, I kinda had a thought that my only real option for coming out of the tournament with any real kind of recognition was to have a fully-painted army (since I play Ogres and would be playing against some tournament-level players), so I began painting my Butcher. I finished painting him the morning of the tournament. I think he came out pretty well.

Joel’s been wanting to get back into Alkemy lately and he plans on doing some demos at WhosYerCon. Last Thursday, I showed up to find he and Jim playing Alkemy at 300 points. I believe Jim ended up winning with his Avalon versus Joel’s Jade Empire. Afterward, Joel and I played. Read More »
Well, this was my first game using the official MkII rules. Joel and I decided to play 35 points with him using Fiona. I think he thought I might bring the Cryx instead of Khador, but I had enough stuff ready to go (assembly-wise anyway).

A shipment from across the sea, which I assumed had gotten lost forever showed up at my door the other day, adding to the collection of Khador stuff I’d acquired to replace it. I spent a good part of the weekend replacing the spears on the Iron Fang Pikemen with brass rod, which is a lot more painstaking than it sounds. I also spent several hours stripping paint from many of the models I received over the last week or two.
Here’s what I’ve got now:

Well, the Ogres finally had a well-earned victory in the Warhammer League. I played a young guy named John, who I’d played a 600 point game last week where we drew due to his having to leave early.
Here’s the list he used to my recollection:
- Vampire w/an item that lets him keep a dispel die from the previous turn to use as a power die
- 10 Skeletons w/full command and some banner that makes their unit strength twice their normal number
- 10 Grave Guard
- 10 Crypt Ghouls
- 3 Cairn Wraiths
- The Vampire had the spells Raise Dead and Invocation

I got more stuff painted. The Ogres are more for the Warseer “Tale of Fantasy Players” painting-motivation thread. We try to get 200 points painted per month. This month’s total is 222, which puts me pretty well ahead of the game. It’s Ogres, so it’s pretty easy to keep up. On the Tyranid front, I have about 350 points fully painted now. These have been easier than I thought they’d be. I went with a speed-painting technique that’s pretty easy to replicate no matter the size of the model.

On Sunday I went over to Games To Die For to play in our local Warhammer Fantasy league. We’re starting at 200 points and adding 100 points every week until we reach 2,000 points (I think). In preparation for this, I have painted up 8 Gnoblar Trappers and some Ironguts, neither of which I ended up using. Read More »
