Pulp City
Long time, no updates…
by Totengraber on Feb.28, 2011, under Blog, Fantasy, Hordes, Miniatures, Miscellaneous, Painting, Pulp City, Sci-Fi, Warhammer 40k, Warhammer Fantasy, Warmachine
Well, I’ve had a long hiatus from updating this site again. I see there are still people visiting, so I’ll try to make an effort to keep it updated. Let’s see what I’ve been up to since the last post…
- Played Ogres a few times in WHFB. Got beaten enough that I figured it must not be the army for me, so I sold/traded them for High Elves.
- Played a game or three of WHFB with the High Elves at one of the Circle City Circuit tournaments and felt pretty good about how they play, though I did get trounced most of the time.
- Won a painting contest at Circle City Circuit #2 with a Ultraforge Treewoman. There were only two other entries, though.
- Painted a High Elf Battle Standard Bearer to very high standard for the Scibor Painting Contest. I also entered Pandora, Candy and my Lord of the Feast. Pandora was chosen for the final voting.
- Assembled and painted more than 50 points of Hordes Circle Orboros for my eKaya army.
- Played in a Warmachine invitational tournament where I won game 1 and lost the other two rounds. No worries, though. I got to hang out with some good friends and talk about painting with some folks.
- Started playing Warhammer 40,000 again since Games To Die For is running a 40K league starting at 600 points. I bought into Dark Eldar. Played my first three games and ended up winning just one against Imperial Guard.
- Bought a Wacom Intuos4 Medium tablet and Painter 11 with which I’ve done some practice drawings. They didn’t turn out as well as I hoped.
- I’m currently taking a Life Drawing class at Ivy Tech to try and improve my drawing skills.
- Sold/traded a lot of the smaller miniatures games and CCGs in lieu of those I can find opponents (and models) for. I’m still working on dropping Infinity and Malifaux. I also unloaded a bunch of roleplaying books to clean up stuff I know I’ll likely never use. I’m keeping Pulp City and MERCS for now.
I guess that’s not all that much for almost 8 months.
In the near future I hope to post some pictures of the models I’ve painted and maybe some digital/traditional art I have done.
Just an Update
by Totengraber on Aug.19, 2010, under HeroClix, Miniatures, Miscellaneous, Pulp City
I just wanted to post an update on what I’ve been up to lately.
Of course, I went to Gen Con a couple of weeks ago. The convention was awesome as always. Fred and I hung out a lot together playing HeroClix. I played in a pre-release event for the next set, Web of Spider-Man, which was cool since Spider-Man has been my favorite comic since I was a kid. I saw a lot of people I hadn’t seen in a while at the convention, though regrettably, I didn’t spend much time with them. I ran several Pulp City demo events like I did in 2009. This year I added on a tournament and a scenario event where Ulthars are invading the city. This was Maciej’s idea. We only had 6 people for the tournament, which was 4 less than the tickets we sold, but it still went well. I think everyone had fun.
For the most part, since Gen Con the main focus of my time has been on assembling the Pulp City miniatures Maciej has been so kind as to provide me with for my work at Gen Con. I have a total of 26 to assemble, with 8 left to go.
Several of us in the area bought into MERCS, so I have assembled the five models I bought at the convention. Joel has been reading up on the rules and I hope to try this game out soon.
I’ve been on a big superhero-gaming kick lately. Fred and I have discussed playing a Savage Worlds game using the Super Powers Companion. I bought a setting book from 1st edition Mutants and Masterminds to use as the backdrop. Should I fin a time and place to run this, I think it’ll be a blast!
I’ve also been working on promoting Pulp City more in the area. I did a demo game with Bryan and his girls last Sunday and come September 12th, I’ll be running another demo event. The latter will be run much like the Ulthar event at Gen Con, though not all the minis will be painted, unfortunately. I still think it’ll be fun.
Anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to. I hope to get some pictures posted and maybe a battle report or two for stuff I’ve been playing.
Gen Con 2009 Recap
by Totengraber on Aug.18, 2009, under Alkemy, Card Games, HellDorado, Magic: The Gathering, Malifaux, Miniatures, Pulp City, Star Trek TCG, War of the Ring, WARS TCG
As some might have already suspected, I haven’t posted here for the last week or so due to the yearly gaming convention called Gen Con held in the local metropolis of Indianapolis (how convenient!!).
The nice thing about this year as opposed to previous years is that I had some company for the drive and some help with parking and gas costs. Fred was that company, and what great company it was. I had a blast having him ride with me. (continue reading…)
Pulp City – Level 5 game, Heroes vs. Villains – Now with Agendas!
by Totengraber on Jul.17, 2009, under Miniatures, Pulp City
Brian and I agreed to meet at Games To Die for to play a game of Pulp City again. I’d finished painting Nuke and Hellsmith, so I was pretty pumped about it. We decided that since we hadn’t played with Agendas in a while, we’d do that to mix things up. He decided he wanted to play Villains (no Nuke or Hellsmith for me!!), so I played straight-up Heroes. He used Six Feet Under last time, so I decided to use him this time. (continue reading…)
Just some painting progress…
by Totengraber on Jun.23, 2009, under Flames of War, Miniatures, Painting, Pulp City, War of the Ring
Over the weekend I was able to get a lot of things done:
Primered all my assembled War of the Ring minis. (24 High Elf Warriors, 24 High Elf Archers, 24 High Elf Spearmen, 24 Wood Elves, Glorfindel, Ent and a number of characters)
Made bases for my Flames of War Churchill Crocodiles since when I pinned the trailers on, the joint seemed finda flimsy.
Painted two Flames of War British M10C SP (17 pdr) tanks. Man, FoW stuff paints up super-quick!
Painted my two HQ stands for my Flames of War British army. They only need dullcoated now.
Applied a basecoat of Trollblood Highlight on my Ent. My sexy/awesome and honest critic wife commented that she wasn’t sure about the base color, but I think some washes will make it look more like a tree.
Worked some more on Nuke and Hellsmith. The toxic glow effect still needs work according to the amazing critic-wife, “It looks like a bunch of green worms on top of yellow goop”.
All in all, a lot of progress made.
Pulp City – Level 5 game Heroes vs. A.R.C.
by Totengraber on Jun.19, 2009, under Miniatures, Pulp City
Brian and I played a game of Pulp City last night. I brought in my board I’m building for Gen Con and some buildings. I still need to paint those as well. We decided to play alevel 5 game, which is what we usually play anyway. We also decided not to use any Agendas as we hadn’t played in a few weeks and sometimes you just want your beatstick to inflict some pain without any real goal.
Lots of progress on stuff I don’t really need progress on
by Totengraber on Jun.16, 2009, under Flames of War, Miniatures, Painting, Pulp City, Warhammer 40k
So, I had a lot of time this weekend and yesterday to get some stuff assembled or painted. Well, I decided to work on Warhammer 40K stauff instead of the Pulp City stuff I should have been working on. I got a 10-man Assault Squad, a 10-man Tactical Squad, a few Heavy/Special weapon models, Shrike, a Rhino and a Drop Pod assembled and primed. Unfortunately, on some of the marines I have the fuzzy primer thing going on. I will try getting a brush or something to try and clean it up, but it is very upsetting to put that much work into assembling figures to have that happen. I wonder if the trick for cloudy clear coat will work for primer (re-coating usually fixes it for me).
Pulp City – Previews and news
by Totengraber on May.21, 2009, under Miniatures, Pulp City
Maciej posted some news and some preview images for some new minis coming out here. The top image is Dr. Tenebrous and the Necro G.I.s. The Necro G.I.s have some cool abilities whn paired up with the good Doc. In the teaser pics, I am not sure what all of them are, but I’m pretty positive one of them is Dr. Mercury, who is named for one of the guys I know on-line and who’s playtested a lot of the newer miniatures games.
Looks like some cool stuff is on the horizon. Now I just need to et caught up on the current releases (Rook, Francis Gator, Father Oak, Acorn, Trail and Blood Rose).
Lots of Gallery Updates
by Totengraber on May.11, 2009, under Confrontation, Miniatures, Painting, Pulp City, War of the Ring, Warhammer 40k, Warhammer Fantasy
I finally finished lots of figures this week. Namely, from Pulp City: Six Feet Under, Mourn, Red Riding Hoodoo and Solar. This brings my “need to paint before Gen Con” list up to 50% done. Since I had the camera and lights out, I decided to take pics of some old Confrontation stuff, some WIP Space Marines and Lizardmen, and an almost-finished Apebot (just the base left!) that I started work on today.
Go check out the Gallery here.

More Painting Done – Pulp City
by Totengraber on Apr.27, 2009, under Miniatures, Painting, Pulp City
Mourn is complete except for his base. Six Feet Under is 80% finished (minus the base). Solar is 90% finished except for he base. Red Riding Hoodoo is 90% finished including the base. I’m working on getting these done for demos at Gen Con.
